[THE COLORFUL story OF LARRY Lavi]
I am currently working as a singer, songwriter, and producer living in San Clemente, CA within walking distance to the beach. I travel to Sonoma, CA frequently to visit my longtime girlfriend Shelly. I enjoy writing and producing songs, traveling, working out, yoga, spending time with Shelly and her 3 cats, and spending time with my 2 brother’s family and kids who live close by in Orange County.
I was born September 18, 1958 in Cincinnati, OH. My parents were Jewish immigrants from Iran. I am the oldest of 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls (all have a name beginning with L). My parents named me Lawrence (which means victory, bright one). My last name Lavi means lion in Hebrew. This is one reason I incorporated Lion into the band name, The Charging Lions.
My father was a Chemist and my mother was a homemaker. I graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati (Magna Cum Laude) and received Chemistry/Biochemistry degrees from the University of Cincinnati (BS, graduated with Honors) and Miami University of Ohio (MS).
From childhood, I exhibited a high sense of spirituality and musical ability. I played violin in grade school and began to study guitar in my 20s. I had a strong voice and would sing songs that I liked as a way to relieve stress from home and school. My favorite artists were the Beatles, Beach Boys, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Elton John, Eagles, Bee Gees, Frankie Valli, Motown artists, Tom Jones. Songs from these artists inspired me in my singing/ songwriting.
When I graduated from college, I started to work in Cancer Research and subsequently in Medical Device/ Pharma companies as a Quality Leader managing teams to ensure products met high-quality standards. I did this work for many years and retired in Dec 2023. During this time, I started writing partial songs in my mind with the dream of eventually writing and producing pop and rock songs.
I know my path has not been typical for a singer/songwriter, but I gained a great deal of life experience, wisdom, and spirituality during this time period which is reflected in my work. My mission is to create beautiful, uplifting, high-energy, melodic songs that take the listener through a journey with stories that leave the listener with positive emotions, feelings, and spiritual reflection.
I have created and produced a colorful myriad of songs that will be cascaded out to the public throughout the new year, so stay tuned and get in touch! Thank you for taking this journey with me. God bless!
